Opening Doors are working in partnership with Out Together (Friends of Dorothy) to provide a Telefriending service to support LGBTQ+ people over 50 in West Yorkshire. We are so excited here at Opening Doors to expand our amazing Telefriending Service to West Yorkshire! 

Opening Doors works across the UK to be there for LGBTQ+ people over 50 wherever they live. Our partnership work with Out Together is allowing us to  reach more isolated LGBTQ+ people over 50 in West Yorkshire to let them know that they are not alone. We have incredible volunteers who are ready to call and be there each week, looking forward to finding out more about you. 

Mike Goldberg will be looking after all of our Members and Volunteers in West Yorkshire! Mike's family are from Yorkshire and he is really excited to get to support LGBTQ+ members in the area. Here is Mike to answer some of your questions you might have!

Who is it for?

Any LGBTQ+ person, over 50 who lives in West Yorkshire (Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and City of Wakefield) who would like to connect with another LGBTQ+ person from the area to chat over the phone regularly. 

We know life can be lonely sometimes and it is harder to get out and about to meet new people, or perhaps you can't get out of the house anymore. That is why Telefriending with Out Together is here so from the comfort of your own home you can connect with someone new, get to know each other and share laughs!

How does it work?

The Telefriending Service will match you with a volunteer from West Yorkshire for a friendly positive chat each week. It will be the same volunteer who calls each week so you'll get to learn lots about each other. The calls will last around 30 minutes and will be on the same day at the same time. The volunteer will be trained and has gone through all our checks. Our volunteers are really looking forward to get chatting and to get to know you! 

The Out Together and Opening Doors Telefriending Service will also work to let those who join to know more about LGBTQ+ events in the West Yorkshire area and keep you updated on everything Out Together has to offer.
