Support us Volunteering Volunteer for us Melanin Vybz Group Women/AFAB Volunteers Can you help us provide valuable support to London’s over-50 LGBTQ+ PoC/BAME people? We are looking for women/AFAB people to volunteer to support our Melanin Vybz social group focused on LGBTQ+ people from BAME/PoC communities over the age of 50 focusing on our interests and issues. Our PoC/BAME engagement is both online and face to face, and we would like volunteers to support this. We’re looking for volunteers to share and support co-facilitation duties. This involves working with our PoC/BAME Engagement Officer and at least one other volunteer to attend and co-facilitate our PoC/BAME sessions. It would be a time commitment of at least 2 hours a month to facilitate the meeting and a few more hours to arrange activities and do some networking. We are particularly interested in increasing the engagement of women as members from PoC/BAME communities, which is why we are particularly interested in hearing from women/AFAP people who are interested in supporting this. No previous experience or qualifications are necessary; knowledge or connection with LGBTQ+ PoC/BAME communities in London would be a plus, but a willingness to engage is just as good! What you'll do: Help to develop a supportive environment for PoC/BAME LGBTQ+ people aged over 50 Work as a volunteer and support for the group and possibly other relevent events such as Black Pride Promote the group to relevant communities and other Opening Doors members and volunteers Meet and welcome group members at each planned event, including distributing name badges and getting monitoring sheets signed Introduce new members to the rest of group (be mindful of isolated members, those sitting on their own, higher support needs etc) Report any problems/concerns to the PoC/BAME Engagement Officer or Opening Doors main office Ensure that the more isolated/vulnerable service users feel included in the group. (Never underestimate “chatting” with members as an essential volunteer role) Volunteers are responsible for reporting back to PoC/BAME Engagement Officer after each session, e.g. numbers attending, main issues What you'll get: a rewarding community experience the chance to meet and support members of our LGBTQ+ PoC/BAME communities the chance to gain or develop community facilitating skills full training and support from Opening Doors Find out more about the role by downloading the role description Want to join our team?
