This time we are highlighting Women's Film Club, a group that started around 2013 and was relaunched recently in person when the lockdown restrictions were lifted. Our members meet every third Thursday of every month from 6 to 8:30pm to watch a film, chat and have some snacks.

We asked our lead volunteer Fiona to tell us a bit more about the event:

Women’s film night is a relaxed event where we have a natter over a cup of tea / glass of wine before the film starts, and watch the film altogether. It is an ideal first event to start with, as we’re a small friendly bunch, many come having not ever met any other members before. Even if you don’t feel particularly sociable, you can take enjoyment from just watching a film with other people. We always show lesbian themed films, sometimes a romantic drama, other times it’s just the lead actresses who are lesbian. Film suggestions are always welcome. See you there!

We also asked our members how do they feel when they attend the event:

'I've been a member of ODL for a relatively short time. I was pleased to see that there was a Women's Film Club and went along to my  first one in October. The film was Carol which I really enjoyed. I have read the book before and it was interesting to see how it had been adapted to film. We had some time to chat about the film after which was good. Lovely to meet more members of the group and the organisers again. Looking forward to The Runaways in Nov.' Sue

'I was nervous to come to the Women's Film club, Im so glad I made the effort to go. The  women were really welcoming. They made me feel at ease straight away and the space is really lovely. I was offered snacks and something to drink. I was touched by that.

It was nice to meet new women and the film was cool. I really recommend the women's film club, its a good evening out. I look forward to the next one. Thank you for having me.' Emille.
