Below are our current volunteer vacancies:
We are recruiting for office based volunteers to support administration activities for both our operations/administration and befriending teams for our LGBTQ+ charity. We are looking for flexible people, happy to volunteer in a friendly environment, helping our work supporting LGBTQ+ people over 50. Applicants need to have some experience of using Office apps and be willing to be trained to use our bespoke CRM system.
Can you interpret BSL and help us support people with hearing impairment?
This is an ideal opportunity for a volunteer to facilitate this increasingly popular fun pub night in Greenwich. This event utilises the skills of two volunteers and we are seeking extra volunteer support. The event is attended by a good mix of current Opening Doors members from the LGBTQ* community and new members have consistently attended the pub night and have subsequently signed up as new Opening Doors members.
We are looking for volunteers to support the London Friend Drop-In which takes place at the venerable London Friend’s offices. This is an informal meet-up for members to chat, meet new friends and catch up with old ones. The group is attended by a good mix of Opening Doors members from across all LGBTQ+ communities over 50. You would be volunteering alongside volunteers from London Friend.
We are looking for women/AFAB people to volunteer to help with facilitating a group focused on LGBTQ+ people from PoC/BAME communities over the age of 50 and our interests and issues.
Our PoC/BAME engagement is both online and face to face, and we would like volunteers to support this. We’re looking for volunteers to share and support co-facilitation duties.
Research is a growing aspect of the work we do at Opening Doors. We want to develop meaningful data about the lives and issues of people over 50 from LGBTQ+ communities, in order to advocate for better understanding and thereby improved services across a range of services for people in our communities. This role will support two particular projects with this aim in mind.
Opening Doors have partnered with Out Together (Friends of Dorothy) for a joint Telefriending Service for those in West Yorkshire.
The Telefriending Service will match someone in the area with a volunteer from West Yorkshire for a friendly positive chat each week. The calls will last around 30 minutes and will be weekly, on the same day and time.
If you are interested in supporting our training team offering LGBTQ training to a variety of organisations across the UK then we have a volunteering opportunity for you. If you have experience of delivering training that would be great, but even if not, we will support you through our in-house training. You will be a valued member of our team of trainers as part of our standard LGBTQ+ awareness training, plus optionally supporting the delivery of more advanced and bespoke sessions.
